The original Apostolate to the Holy Face of Jesus was authorized by Pope Leo XIII in 1885. Sister Mary of St. Peter in Tours, France was a Carmelite Nun, who received visitations from Jesus for several years in the 1840’s. The Golden Arrow, is her autobiographical account, in which she describes Our Lord’s request for people to make atonement for the sins committed directly against God in the first three of the Ten Commandments.
St. Veronica consoled and comforted Jesus by handing her veil to Him to wipe His bleeding face on the way to His crucifixion. It left behind the indelible image of His face and it is kept to this day in St. Peter’s Basilica. Our Lord continues to ask for us to bring Him the same consolation but with prayers and acts of reparation. Described at the most powerful devotion to Our Lord, it is believed the prayers offered to the Holy Face are destined to save the world at this most critical time in history.
Members of this Apostolate participate in this devotion privately, as well as meet once a month as a group. When groups of people come together to pray for the same intentions, their prayers are much more efficacious. We meet on the second Saturday of every month following the conclusion of the 9:00 am Mass, in St. Augustine Hall. After coffee and food, we begin our Prayers of Reparation to the Holy Face of Jesus. Our group sharing and discussion end at 11:45 am.
